i-Vertix Autodiscovery: optimized monitoring configuration
i-Vertix Autodiscovery is one of the features included within our i-Vertix IT Network Management solution. Its job is to optimize the monitoring configuration by automatically identifying services and adding them to your monitoring system, thus ensuring a 100% coverage and helping you save plenty of time.
The autodiscovery feature can detect hundreds of different services, but here’s a list of the most popular ones:
- Network interfaces on different devices and operating systems
- Disks, volumes, datastores, partitions, etc. on different devices, OS, VMWare and Nutanix
- Services and processes for different operating systems
- Storage: volumes, groups, pools, LUN, FC ports, shares, etc.
- Cloud: instances, virtual machines, resources and services on AWS, MS Azure
- Office 365: services, One Drive sites, SharePoint sites
- Database: instances, databases, tablespaces, etc. for MS SQL, Oracle, Informix, MongoDB, PostgreSQL etc.
- Kubernetes & Prometheus: daemon sets, deployments, namespaces, nodes, pods etc.
- Tomcat: data sources, web apps, applications
i-Vertix Autodiscovery can be used in both manual and automatic mode. The user can manually select the host and run research when needed or it is possible to automate the monitoring configuration by scheduling a research in the programmed mode.
i-Vertix Host discovery
Another integrated feature is the host discovery, which, thanks to a set of specific rules, allows you to easily perform automatic research for devices and systems within a network segment. This process removes the complexity of the infrastructures and helps you monitor what really matters with just a few clicks.
Here are the main functions:
- Automatic devices/systems research
- Scanning of a network segment for an accurate and reliable research
- Data acquisition via network scanner and SNMP protocol
- Match with pre-configured templates that are in the system
- Automatic identification of brand and technology used
How to perform the Host discovery
The user creates a job and can add filters and parameters as a basis for the research. The parameters that can be filtered are cidr (subnet) and snmp communities (it is possible to add more than one, they will all be tested) and it is possible to exclude Ips or insert certain intervals.
In the following step the snmp discovery lists all the IPs found that respond to the snmp protocol.
The user can open the job again to get a preview of all identified hosts with the corresponding host templates and services found. We can define the match rate with a template.
With a single/multiple selection the user can directly add the new hosts to the monitoring system. In the future, it will be possible to enable the job scheduling option and automatically add all the new hosts that meet the criteria of the Host Discovery Rule.
i-Vertix VMware discovery
For the VMware discovery feature we directly use the SDK that VMware provides. Through this functionality we get all the statistics and monitoring data at a very high quality and in-depth level, allowing us to monitor all aspects of a virtual environment, both internally and externally.
Here are the main characteristics:
- Complete view of the topology
- Automatic VMware discovery and complete view of the datacenters
- Scanning of Datacenters, Clusters, ESXi Hosts, Datastores, Virtual machines and NIC’s
- Automatic visualization of software and hardware parameters (OS, disks, traffic, errors, CPU, memory, etc.)
- Deploy and monitor with a few clicks
- Pre-configured or custom rules
How to perform the VMware discovery
The user creates a job with the parameters that have to be used for the research, which poller has to run the query, the container and the VMware objects (VMs, NICs, Datastores).
The poller runs the service discovery (if the option is enabled on the job) to detect all datastores in the datacenter or ESXi-standalone.
The user can open the job again to see the complete topology of the vCenter (or ESXi-standalone).
With a single/multiple selection in the tree-structured identified schema, the user can directly add the new hosts to the monitoring system.
